On September 3, 1942, in Lima, Ohio, a future architect of California sound was born: Alan Charles Jardine, better known as Al Jardine, founding member of The Beach Boys. His rhythm guitar, falsetto harmonies, and storytelling vocals helped define the golden age of surf rock—a genre that still ripples through the airwaves of ETI RADIO, where tiki dreams and ocean breezes never fade.

Jardine’s musical journey began with a love for folk music, but destiny had other plans. After reconnecting with Brian Wilson at El Camino College in 1961, Jardine joined forces with the Wilson brothers, Mike Love, and David Marks to form The Beach Boys. Though he initially pushed for a folk direction, the group’s surf-centric sound won out—and the rest is rock history.
