Lei Away 2025: A Tropical Escape in the Heart of Kansas City

This September, the rhythms of the tropics will pulse through the Midwest as Lei Away returns to Kansas City for a three-day celebration of Polynesian pop, island culture, and immersive escapism. From September 26–28, 2025, attendees will step into a lush world of exotic music, vibrant cuisine, and curated tiki experiences—all set against the backdrop of 519 East 18th Street.

More than just a party, Lei Away is a cultural retreat that blends artistry, education, and community. Guests can sip handcrafted cocktails, explore a marketplace of tiki vendors, and attend seminars that dive deep into the history and aesthetics of Polynesian pop. The event proudly features local Polynesian makers, musicians, dancers, and chefs, reinforcing its mission to support and celebrate the community both locally and abroad.

This year’s lineup includes tiki luminaries like Sven Kirsten, author of The Book of Tiki, whose work helped ignite the modern tiki revival. Also joining the festivities is Spike Marble, host of Spike’s Breezeway Cocktail Hour and frontman of The Hula Girls, bringing his signature blend of vintage mixology and rockabilly exotica. Rounding out the roster is Tiki Tom-Tom, the creative force behind Polynesiacs: Tiki at Home, who will share stories from his cross-country journey documenting handcrafted home tiki bars.

Beyond the entertainment, Lei Away continues its commitment to giving back. A portion of proceeds will support Polynesian-focused organizations in Kansas City and aid recovery efforts in Maui, including contributions to The Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center and the Maui Humane Society.

Whether you’re a seasoned tikiphile or a curious newcomer, Lei Away offers a rare chance to experience the spirit of aloha in the heartland. It’s a celebration of ohana, escapism, and the enduring magic of island culture—no passport required.
