ℹ️ Additional Info:

Pele Utu is Reno’s premier fully immersive tiki bar, offering a true escape into Polynesian‑pop fantasy. Located at 1275 Stardust St., it has quickly earned a reputation for delivering an authentic mid‑century tiki experience rather than a simple tropical theme. Inside, guests are surrounded by carved masks, glowing swag lamps, black‑velvet artwork, and a dramatic Moai mural that anchors the bar. Every detail is crafted to transport visitors into a world of rum, mystery, and atmospheric island escapism.

The bar’s identity is shaped by the playful legend of Hukilau Jim, an adventurer whose fictional misadventures form the mythic foundation of the space. According to the tale, Jim first built “Pele’s Playground” inside a volcanic cavern before angering the goddess Pele, who destroyed it in a fiery eruption. Undeterred, he rebuilt his paradise in a hidden cove and named it Pele Utu, meaning “Escape from Pele’s Wrath.” This story-driven approach adds depth to the décor, cocktail names, and overall experience, giving the bar a sense of lore and continuity.

Pele Utu is operated by longtime tikiphile Dr. Shocker and his wife Rosie Raddish, both known for their dedication to authenticity and craft. Their cocktail program blends traditional tiki recipes with inventive house creations, offering classics like the Mai Tai, Jet Pilot, Zombie, and Navy Grog alongside signature drinks such as the Hukilau Jim and the fiery Altar of Sacrifice. Each cocktail is built with layered rum blends, fresh juices, and traditional syrups, presented with the theatrical flair that defines true tiki mixology.
