The Merrie Monarch Festival is Hawaiʻi’s most prestigious celebration of hula, culture, and tradition. Held annually in Hilo during the week following Easter, the festival honors King David Kalākaua—known as the “Merrie Monarch”—whose passion for the arts helped revive and preserve Hawaiian cultural practices.
